Will You Accept The Baton In The Race To Achieve Equality?
As we pause to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., a dedicated and determined fighter — and undoubtedly the most well known — in the fight for racial equality, one thing should be abundantly clear: That through it all, African-Americans, along with their fellow-Americans, have much to celebrate. The intellectual capital, blood, sweat, toil, tears, and ultimately his life helped to make America what it is today.
America's Children Are Missing From the Presidential Debates, Public Policy Agenda
How well this nation takes care of and prepares its children will define the long-term quality of life — culturally, socially, economically — in America, our ability to compete globally, and how we rank overall as a civil society on the world stage. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
The Times Beg For A New Conversation: Will Civility And The Common Good Reign Again?
As the end of another year approaches, and we prepare to celebrate yet another Holiday Season when we are harkened back to old family traditions that include taking time to prepare old fashioned homemade meals, getting reacquainted and basking in the comfort of family and friends, it is unlikely that we will be able to totally escape the sense of unease, and disconnectedness we feel about the times we live in today in the United States and the world.
Is Racism The Big Elephant In The United States Halls Of Congress?
The leadership of the Republican Party, along with the current pool of candidates for President, makes it consistently clear that that their number one goal is to make President Barack Obama a one-term president. Tenth Anniversary of 9/11: Our Best And Lasting Defense Against Terrorism
On the eve of the tenth anniversary of 91l, the nation is once again on alert, for the possibility of another terrorist attack. As we remember and pay tribute to those who lost their lives on the day that changed America forever, we also need to look toward the future.
Proclaiming children as our most valuable future resource has become a common refrain. But the gravity of its meaning has never loomed larger than it does today as we face, perhaps, the war of all wars: Terrorism.
Mississippi’s Racially-Motivated Murder Is A Wake-Up Call To Us All
The wanton killing of a black man, allegedly by two white teens in Jackson, Miss., is a horrendous and sad wake-up call that highlights how deeply racial hatred remains alive and well in America.
But it is more than an allegation. Today, CNN revealed a chilling video tape that captures the entire incident of the two white teens beating and subsequently running over, with a large pick-up truck, a black man that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The past is poignantly prologue.
Electing The President Of The United States Is A Big Deal
As citizens of the United States, we are facing one of the most important decisions to affect our future as a country with the upcoming presidential election. The long-term direction of too many important issues is riding on the man or woman we choose to represent us.
Whether we choose President Barack Obama, Michele Bachman, Mitt Romney, or someone yet to emerge, we can ill afford to be disinterested and disengaged. Investing time to do our own research to get beyond the distortions, sound bits and talking heads is required, if we are to make an informed decision.
Florida’s Welfare Drug-Screen Law: Discrimination, Politics, Or The American Way?
The new law requiring all adults who apply for welfare to undergo drug testing could be a positive step toward real welfare reform, if other reforms receive equal priority and importance.

What Is Happening To Our Quest To Become A More Civilized Society?
Will you become a pistol-packing mamma or a gun-toting dude?
What will be your piece of choice? A pearl-handled derringer? A 44 magnum? Or, will you take no chances and carry a fifteen round semi-automatic berretta in your briefcase?
Soon, if it is left up to many states and their respective legislators (with Arizona ahead of most), you will have that choice. We all may have a chance, first hand, to experience many aspects of the good old days of the “Wild, Wild West” all across America.
